Sting-Less was born from a pivot during the uncertainty of COVID-19, a moment that challenged us to rethink how we could better serve people through the products we create.
Founders John Harmon and his wife, Collin Harmon, were already operating another brand, Oil Slick. While working closely with that product line, they saw an opportunity to evolve one of their formulas into something more impactful for everyday skin care. In reworking the ingredients, they partnered with Bellus Labs who is widely regarded as one of the most respected chemistry labs in the United States to refine and elevate their current formula. From that collaboration, they launched an improved version of their first Sting-Less product which is our adhesive remover made to help Type 1 diabetics remove medical bandages without the pain.
Where Did the Name Come From?
The name Sting-Less was inspired by two core ideas. First, the adhesive remover was intentionally formulated without alcohol, eliminating the harsh burning sensation typically found in an adhesive remover for skin, which makes Sting-Less truly sting-free. Second, it reflects a much broader problem: many common skin conditions and everyday injuries come with discomfort. From sunburns, eczema flare-ups, to bug bites, rashes, and small wounds, we saw firsthand that skin irritation is part of daily life, but most products people turn to aren’t effective or clinically supported. That realization shaped the mission behind Sting-Less.
Why the Ocean Theme?
We intentionally built Sting-Less around an ocean-inspired identity. This direction came from two core beliefs. First, we formulated with a number of ocean-inspired ingredients known to help calm and restore the skin such as red algae, sea moss, and sea salt. Second, the ocean represents something deeper: a sense of calm. Whether it’s a quiet beach walk or going to surf, the ocean has a way of grounding people and bringing them back to balance. We wanted that same feeling to be reflected in our products, designed to calm and support your skin, even when it’s going through its toughest moments.

Every product is developed with the intention of helping people care for their skin without adding to the discomfort. What started as a single product to help ease the pain of taking off a bandage, has now grown into a brand rooted in innovation, real-life use cases, and a commitment to making your skin feel better, literally.
